WordPress Themes – Premium VS Free Themes
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
When I first started blogging a year ago I didn’t have a clue as to whether or not to purchase a premium theme or use a free WordPress theme. This can be quite confusing in the beginning especially when you don’t know much about blogging to begin with.
Allow me to share with you my experience as to which is better – premium vs free themes.
There are a lot of free themes which can be observed simply by searching in Google for “free WordPress themes”. I find it really helps to stipulate what sort of free themes you are looking for so search “simple free WordPress themes” or whatever it is you are searching for.
Free themes are usually fine but at times there may be hidden traps;
Disadvantages Of Free Themes
- Quality of coding.
- Advertising – there is sometimes advertising on free themes. Look for themes with no advertising.
- Lack of support.
- Uniqueness – when themes are popular they are downloaded a lot so then you can lose the ability for your blog to be unique.
In my experience with “Free Themes” is that I was limited to what I could do as far as the functionality of my blog which made it extremely frustrating. I had tried several different themes throughout the year which only led me to more frustration and more work. Because every time I changed a theme it never completely loaded my information correctly so there was always editing to do to making my blog look right.
Premium themes are usually excellent and definitely well worth the money if you are serious about creating a flagship blog that is representative of who you are and what you do.
Advantages to Premium Themes
- Better quality coding which makes it easier to use.
- Support – the support is usually a hundred times better.
- Customization – you are able to do a lot more customizing with your blog to the way you want it.
Good Premium Themes To Consider
- Socrates Theme - this is the one that I am using and I am very pleased with it.
- Thesis – I have also heard good reports on this theme as well.
- Studio Press – I am not as familiar with this theme however I have heard from other people that it is good as well.
I hope you have enjoyed my analogy of free vs premium themes. If you would to check out the free theme options go to WordPress Directory.
